When and where can I get an application?

Applications become available by mid-January and are available in the school’s counseling office. They are also available on this web site by clicking on the following link: SLSF Scholarship Application. Please note, although applications are available online, the forms must be filled in by hand and handed in to your counselor.

Is there a deadline?

Yes, the deadline changes each year to meet the school calendar; any application received after that date will not be considered. The date is well publicized at the school and is on the application.

May I fax the application?

No. Applications that are faxed will not be considered.

Where do I submit the application?

The scholarship application is to be delivered to the Counselor’s Secretary.

I understand that you administer many different scholarships. May I apply for more than one of them?

Yes and no. When you complete the application you are applying for all of the scholarships. The SLSF will determine which scholarships you may be eligible for based on the information that you submit in your application.

What are the criteria for the scholarships?

Scholarships are based on a number of criteria including GPA, need, interest in specific careers, the institution that you plan to attend, ethnic background, home-owner association where you live to name a few.  It is important to completely fill out the application.  Otherwise, you may be overlooked for a scholarship for which you are qualified.

May I go to any school?

You may attend the university, college, trade school or other institution of higher learning that you choose.

Do I need to be full-time?

Yes, these scholarships are for full-time attendance (12 credit hours or better).

When will I find out if I qualify?

All awards are announced at the ‘Senior Recognition Night’ held a few weeks prior to graduation. This event is well-attended. Many parents and community members attend this very happy event where the scholarships earned by graduating seniors are recognized. At this event not only SLSF scholarships but also many direct scholarships from a wide variety of educational institutions and other groups are presented or otherwise acknowledged.
